The top five ALOFT teams are separated by 71 projected points over fourteen weeks — about five a game — and every one of them has a single slot that can undo it. Shake 'N Bake leads on a league-best 382 skill VOR while starting the lowest-projected quarterback in the league. Forty of 198 rostered players carry a Questionable tag as of this morning.
The draft ended Friday night and the top of this league was already decided in March. Forty-three keepers came off the board first; of the 56 picks in rounds one through four, 43 were spent before anyone sat down. What the live draft did was separate five teams from the rest and then leave each of them holding exactly one slot that can undo the whole thing.
A note that applies to every team in all three of these pieces: 40 of the 198 players rostered across fourteen teams carry a Questionable designation as of 2026-09-06 — 20%. That is the Sleeper injury field read the morning after the draft, before a single week-one practice report. What "Questionable" means on this date is UNKNOWN: a September 6 tag and a September 12 tag are not the same object. It is called out below where it changes a lineup and left alone where it is noise.
VERIFIED: 1846 corrected projected points, first in the league, on a 382 skill VOR that is 20 clear of second. The keeper set — Gibbs 341, Nacua 256, Jefferson 212, Judkins 187 — is worth 370 VOR by itself, the best in the league, and the live draft added only +12 on top of it. This is a March team.
The hinge is quarterback, twice. Kyler Murray projects 385, the lowest of the fourteen starting quarterbacks, and the QB1-to-QB14 spread on this board is 82 points — meaning Shake 'N Bake concedes the entire positional spread to Josh Allen's owner. He also has no QB2, one of only two teams in that position.
The subtler risk is correlation. He rosters four Minnesota players (Murray, Jefferson, Aaron Jones, Will Reichard) and three of them — quarterback, receiver-flex, kicker — are in his projected starting eight. The bye-week calendar is UNKNOWN to me and somebody should map it today, because in a league with a median match a hole costs two results, not one, and this is a three-slot hole.
INFERRED: the ceiling is the highest in the league and the floor is a bad Vikings season. Projected finish 1st-3rd, high confidence.
COACH PROFILE — Dale Skarsgaard-Pflug. Twenty-two years selling snowblowers out of Eagan before the league found him. His philosophy, stated at every press conference, is that chemistry is a commuting distance: he will not roster a man he could not drive to. Signature failure — he gives the entire team the same week off, out of respect, and calls it "the bye, observed."
VERIFIED: 1794 corrected, 352 skill VOR, three keepers (Bijan 327, Amon-Ra 252, Loveland 177) and a live draft that was almost entirely at market: Waddle at pick 44 against market rank 9, DJ Moore at 58 against 10. There is very little here to argue with, and no argument worth inventing.
Two things are real. Dallas projects 61 points, the lowest starting defence in the league, in a league whose own two completed seasons measure a 4.9 ppg spread from the first defence to the fourteenth — in started weeks only, which inflates it, and larger than outside proxies say, though how much of that is the punt-return yards this scoring gives defences has not been isolated (open-questions.md §12). Fourteen defences are unrostered. This is a free fix and he has not made it.
Second, the running back room behind Bijan is Jonathon Brooks (Questionable), a rookie, and a post-draft add of Brian Robinson. In a lineup where a back can win three of five skill seats, that is where the season is decided.
He holds the most valuable QB2 among the contenders — Mayfield 399 behind Stafford 409, with Murray Creek's Mahomes at 395 the only comparable one — which makes him the seller the two one-quarterback teams need. Projected finish 2nd-4th, high confidence.
COACH PROFILE — Vaughn Pilcrow. Came over from a mid-Atlantic casualty insurer and has never stopped talking like one. Believes every position must carry a rider. He rosters two tight ends in a league with no tight end slot and drafted a receiver already on injured reserve at pick 184, which he describes as "an endorsement on an existing policy." Signature failure — everything on the roster is covered except the second running back, which he classifies as an act of God.
VERIFIED: the raw report has him 1625 and twelfth. Two of his eight slots were broken for reasons unrelated to football — Eddy Pineiro's row carries no projection at all (a board data hole; he is San Francisco's kicker) and Green Bay's defence projects 78. Corrected, he is around 1796 and third, with a 362 skill VOR that is second only to Shake 'N Bake.
He did that from draft slot 14. In a linear draft there is no turn: he picked last in all ten live rounds with a constant gap of fourteen and no compensation anywhere. He still walked out with McCaffrey, Kenneth Walker, Nabers and Pickens kept, and MarShawn Lloyd at 84 — which both shows had re-priced upward in the week before the draft while the board's market rank had not caught up.
The risk is concentration and health. McCaffrey is 305 projected points, roughly 17% of the corrected lineup, aged 30, Questionable. Four of his six receivers carry the tag, and so does McCaffrey — five of fourteen. And Josh Jacobs at pick 98 is designated NA — this league's four reserve slots take IR and COVID only, so Jacobs is a chair, one of six bench spots, holding a man who is not permitted to play.
Projected finish 2nd-6th, moderate confidence. The core is real; the distribution has a fat left tail named McCaffrey.
COACH PROFILE — Ambrose Fetter. Thirty-one years an assistant athletic trainer before somebody handed him a whistle. Operating principle: a healthy player is one who hasn't been examined. Signature failure — he keeps a legally ineligible man on the roster because the paperwork is, in his words, immaculate, and he has begun listing the training table as a positional group.
VERIFIED: 1796 corrected, 324 skill VOR, built on three kept running backs (Cook 274, Chase Brown 234, Tuten 192) plus Burrow at 442. Then he drafted TreVeyon Henderson at 77 for +15 of slip. That is four legitimate starting backs in a league where a back can fill three of the five skill seats.
The problem is the other two seats. He has four receivers and two REC_FLEX slots that only a receiver or tight end can fill, and he owns no tight ends. The projected lineup starts Luther Burden and Alec Pierce.
Pierce is the sharpest single problem on any contender's roster, because both shows fade him and cross-show agreement is rarer and worth more than disagreement. The Ballers: a second ankle injection, "no good vibes," and an 8% red-zone target share with Daniel Jones. BDGE: a full fade all summer, the ankle timeline slipping, still not practising, and a guest physician's suspected OCD lesion after conservative treatment failed. Burden, the other seat, is BDGE's buy-the-dip and Questionable.
He also holds three quarterbacks and two defences, so three of six bench spots hold players who cannot enter a normal-week lineup. Jaylin Noel at 119 — 74 projected, market rank 233 — was the largest reach in the draft.
Projected finish 2nd-7th, moderate confidence, and the interval is entirely about two receiver seats.
COACH PROFILE — Wendell Toomey III. Fourth generation of a family concern, and "the successor" since 1998. Philosophy: succession planning, applied to the depth chart. He has a starter, a backup, and a backup's backup at the one position that permits a single starter. Signature failure — completed the quarterback succession plan in August and has not yet opened the file marked RECEIVERS, which he refers to as "phase two."
VERIFIED: 1775 corrected and fifth, on a pre-trade skill VOR of 228 — twelfth in the league, 96 behind Murray Creek's 324. He is fifth because of Josh Allen (467, the highest projected quarterback) and Ka'imi Fairbairn (202, the highest projected kicker, and the best of the two kickers this league's own history has measured: 12.3 ppg with a 9.2 floor across 22 started weeks, started weeks only, so a benched bad matchup flatters it). Adding Bucky Irving to a lineup that was flexing Courtland Sutton is most of what closes the gap between a fifth-place projection and a twelfth-place skill core.
Then the only trade of the draft. Before anyone sat down, Bickering War Wrens and Regular Human Bartender swapped four picks — the Wrens sent rounds six and thirteen for the Bartender's rounds five and fourteen. The Wrens used the earlier pick on Bucky Irving at 57; the round-thirteen pick they gave up became Tyler Bass at 176, the kicker the Bartender needed. It is the only trade in the draft. That leaves five running backs and zero tight ends, which is the most literal expression of this league's measured meta anywhere on the fourteen rosters.
The cost is the receiver room: A.J. Brown, Sutton, Golden and Odunze, four bodies for two mandatory receiver seats plus byes. Odunze is a live cross-show split — the Ballers are in on a year-three breakout at a sixth-round price, arguing the public over-soured; BDGE is mixed-to-out at WR28, matching ADP, flagging Caleb Williams' down-to-down accuracy as the risk. The Ballers have also cooled on Irving specifically — Gainwell out-repping him in the receiving game, zero carries inside the five last year.
Projected finish 3rd-8th, moderate confidence. The quarterback and kicker are load-bearing in a way no other contender's are.
COACH PROFILE — Merle Hasp. Former quarry foreman, promoted on the strength of a single sentence in his interview: "mass." Runs five running backs and no tight ends. Signature failure — traded a receiver and a kicker for a fifth back and now fields exactly four pass-catchers for two mandatory receiving seats, a situation he has described as "lean, in the good way."
